Rounding out the end of our trip, we stopped in Highlands, NC. Chris was familiar with the area, as he spent a great deal of time visiting the area while growing up with his dad and grandma. One of his favorite memories was the Dillard House. I must say that after reading up on the Dillard House, it is a true Southern tradition. The Dillard House has been recongized time and time again for their southern charm, and their southern meals:

  • Southern Favorite Restaurant 1997-2009
  • Southern Living Magazine Reader's Choice Award for
  • Best Breakfast/Brunch Restaurant 2009

After reading all of the above, I was on board to give it a try.. We arrived at the Dillard House for lunch. All meals are served family style. You sit down, and they give you, your drinks, and then fill your table with plates of what is on the menu for the day. The lunch menu was below:
  • Fried Chicken
  • Virginia Suger Cured Ham - Country Ham available on request.
  • Country Steak
  • BBQ Chicken
  • Rice 'n Gravy
  • Green Beans
  • Corn on the Cob
  • Cabbage Casserole
  • Parsley Potatoes
  • Fried Okra
  • Baked Acorn Squash
  • Tomatoes, Onions
  • Cole Slaw
  • Melon
  • Yeast Rolls
  • Cornbread
  • Cobbler a la Mode
I hardly made a dent, The Squash and Mashed potatoes were amazing, as was the corn on the cob.  It was totally craziness. I can only imagine that this would be a great place to go with a large family/group and pass the plates all around the table..

The Dillard House will be featured on the Food Network this month, and I can't wait to watch and explain "I've been there"
